1 Structure and performance of UV indicator cards in UV lamps
The UV intensity indicator card consists of card stock, UV-sensitive color blocks, and standard colors. The UV-sensitive color block is in the center, and the standard color block with a radiation intensity of 90μW/cm² and 70μW/cm² is printed on each end. When the UV-sensitive color block is irradiated by UV radiation, it produces different shades of purple-red according to the intensity of UV radiation, which can be compared with the standard color block to monitor the intensity of UV radiation in the 253.7 nm band of UV lamps.
2 Scope of use
For the monitoring of the irradiance of germicidal UV lamps of all types.
3 How to use UV lamps
After the UV lamp has been irradiated, the UV-sensitive color block in the pattern turns from milky white to varying shades of purplish red. The intensity of the UV lamp irradiation can be measured by comparing it with a standard color block.
New UV lamps with a test radiation intensity of ≥ 90 μW/cm² are qualified. Old lamps in use with radiation intensity values ≥ 70 μW/cm² can continue to be used, while lamps with radiation intensity values < 70 μW/cm² should be replaced with new lamps.
Note: The lamps in use with a value greater than 90uW/cm² should be monitored once every six months, those with a value greater than 70uW/cm² and less than 90uW/cm² should be monitored once a quarter, and those with a total of 1000 hours of use should be replaced with new tubes regardless of whether they pass the monitoring.
4 How to operate UV lamps
1. Check when UV light needs to be monitored and carry out monitoring on time.
(1) greater than 90uW/cm² in use monitored once every six months.
(2) Quarterly monitoring for those greater than 70uW/cm² and less than 90uW/cm².
(3) A total of 1,000 hours of use for a new tube regardless of whether the monitoring is qualified.
(4) New tubes must be monitored before use.
2. Mark the monitoring time and location.
(1) The UV indicator card will indicate the time and place of monitoring. For example, 2013.06.06 treatment room.
(2) Set the UV lamps to be monitored from inside to outside or from left to right as numbers ① and ②; write the indication cards with numbers ① and ② in order.
3. Monitoring and monitoring contrast.
(1) Turn on the UV lamp for 5 min, wait for it to stabilize, place the indicator card at the center 1 m vertically from the bottom of the UV lamp, place the patterned side towards the lamp and irradiate for 1 min.
(2) After the UV lamp has been irradiated, the UV-sensitive color block in the pattern changes from a milky white to a purple-red color of varying shades. The intensity of the UV lamp irradiation can be measured by comparing it with the standard color block.
4. To record monitoring results.
(1) Attach the monitoring instruction card to the hospital infection management manual.
(2) Record the monitoring time and results in the hospital infection management manual and in the register of UV light use.
